Rediscovering Hope Through the Lens of Suffering

Created for Good Works: God is in the Details

September 19, 2019 By Rachel Lee 122 Comments

“For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Do you know what I love about God?

Well, okay, there’s a lot I love about God. But one thing in particular that I appreciate about Him, is that He is detail-oriented.

Give a holler if you’re a detail-oriented woman like myself!

If so, you probably already know that we detail-oriented women have been given a bad wrap over the years. Sometimes referred to us as control freaks. Maybe a little high maintenance. Some might even say we are lacking in the “spontaneous” department.

These notions used to upset me, until I came to the realization that we are made in the very image of God. And guess what? God is detail-oriented!

I Love You Too: What My Child Taught Me About Being Confident in God’s Love

September 12, 2019 By Rachel Lee 28 Comments

“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

My three year old has this habit of climbing up onto my lap at random times throughout the day, nuzzling her head into my chest, and whispering, “I love you too, mom.”

Her term of endearment brings a smile to my face. And I can’t help but giggle a little too. She never waits for me to say, “I love you,” first, as is the typical order of affection in most relationships. She simply expresses her reciprocal love for me, as though she is already keenly aware of my love for her.

A few mornings ago, this same scenario played itself out once again, and as it did, I heard the Lord speak. “Oh, that my children would be so confident in my love, as this.”

What It Means To Be Brave When Life is Hard

September 5, 2019 By Rachel Lee 283 Comments

How do you do brave when your world has fallen apart?

Growing up, I had fond memories of hot, summer days spent at the local lake, learning to swim at the instruction of my father.

My dad loved to swim. And he was a great teacher too! He offered patient assistance, affirmation, and the occasional correction, when I was in need of further guidance.

He gave me the knowledge I needed, and the kind of confidence that comes only with practice.

I was not afraid to go out into the deep end of the lake, in over my head, so long as he was the one beckoning me, because I knew that if I began to sink, his arms would reach out and catch me. I grew stronger and more confident with each brave plunge I took.

Redeemed From Shame

August 28, 2019 By Rachel Lee 61 Comments

Real Women. Real Stories. Real Hope.

Guest Post by Jaime Wiebel

I needed to be redeemed from shame!

Where is another God like you, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast out all our sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:18-18)

My story is much like most people. The storyline may look a bit different but the pages are riddled with the same problem– Rebellion to the Creator.

I was living for myself. I was chasing every dream. Every whim. Every desire. My life was my own and I was the creator of my destiny.

But I was lost.

I was living deep in the trenches of pride and selfishness.

Always a Bridesmaid, Never A Bride: HOPE in the Wait

August 21, 2019 By Rachel Lee 253 Comments

Real Women. Real Stories. Real Hope.

Guest Post by Heather Hancock

Have you ever had to hope & wait for something you desperately longed for?

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4 ESV

I spent my 20s and 30s attending a lot of weddings and baby showers. By the time I was 35, I had been the Maid of Honor, the Bridesmaid, and sat as a spectator at my friends’ weddings.

I attended the baby showers of many, and obligingly held their squirming little bundles of joy. Before I knew it, all those children were in school, and my friends had bought houses.

Some had moved away. They were all getting on with their lives and I was stuck – single and aging..
